Who knows what lurks in the long, cold nights as we creep through darkness towards the winter solstice? We huddle together around our little lights for safety and warmth and tell each other stories of what might be out there as some sort of charm against the monsters being real. In fact, it was once tradition to tell ghost stories on Christmas Eve, something that has fallen by the wayside, but the darkness is still out there.

Holiday Spirits Readings

Applications are open for FRIGID’s third annual Holiday Spirits, two nights of short play readings on themes of winter, the holidays, and the horrors therein.

We’re looking for scripts that deal with the ghosts of Decembers past, winter dread, and snowy monsters. Bring us your holiday horrors and your solstice dreams, your dark nights and your melancholic days. From the frightening to the funny, we want to meet your holiday spirits.
Previous years have seen a golem dreidel, Krampus vs Santa, a gift for a monster, a sentient Christmas tree, haunted hikers, ennui over the solstice sacrifice, druids, and, of course, lots of ghosts.

Script requirements:
– Run time should be around 10 minutes and no longer than 15 minutes
– Feature 2-4 actors (no monologues)
– A full piece, not an excerpt from a larger whole.
– Written in either English or Spanish
– Your original work (written by you; no AI generated text)

Deadline to submit is October 5th.

Performances will be December 5th and 6th at 7:00pm at our home venue of UNDER St Marks.
